The Shadow World Hamlin Garland 9781446035696 Books
"The Shadow World" was first published in 1908 by Hamlin Garland, who was known for his fiction works involving farmers and the hardships of agrarian life, such as "Main-Traveled Roads" (1891), and who in 1929 moved to California from Massachusetts to pursue devotedly a paranormal phenomena, an area of study that he first took interest in 1891.Mr. Garland had had pointed out, in his Foreword, that "The Shadow World" is a "faithful record" of several psychic phenomena that he observed up to seventeen years before this book's publication. This is pretty much the synopsis for the entire book, but it was done with a novelist's style. The author shared his experiences, in a first-person perspective, during his numerous séances with both "professional" and "amateur" mediums as well as all the noted physical phenomena, such as furniture and other objects movements, etc. It sure is an interesting reading of its time.
I personally enjoyed Mr. Garland's writing in this book as he attempted to approach the phenomena with an open mind. He offered no conclusions as to what he had had experienced, but one can tell from reading this book that he actually "believed" in this phenomena. Needless to say, this book sure reads like a fiction, and certainly a good material to be added to the piles for those whom are interested in the historic Spiritualism.

The Shadow World Hamlin Garland 9781446035696 Books Reviews
An eye witness account of the paranormal and supernatural, or as the author calls it, The Shadow World.
Often inspirational, but also sometimes frightening, the book is great. Good for winning over skeptics, but also for going in behind the story, and truly asking the questions you or I would ask when encountering events such as these.
These are the real X Files.
The Shadow World will shock you. This book was written by a neutral party who wanted to investigate these sort of occurrences, i.e. life after death, is it true, what happens when we die, can we reach this spirit world? Garland calls it the Shadow World, and in his book the author investigated and proved not only to his own mind, but to many others, the reality of life after death, but which corroborates what so many 'feel' but can not prove.
This book will convince a skeptic and also advance any research you may be doing, as well as assist those interested in communicating with the dead. I don't advice it, let them remain where they are - but if it is a must, this book will assist you.
